Sent May 2, 2002Greetings!Have you ever wondered who your Haselden cousins are or where in the world they live? Are you trying to do genealogy in the Haselden line and don't know where to find more information? Would you like to learn more about or contribute to information relating to the Haselden family? I'd like to announce a new website http://www.haselden.org This website is dedicated to bringing the Haselden family closer together, if only electronically. =================================== =================================== You're receiving this email because you're either related to a Haselden, you are a Haselden or you're a Haselden interested party, meaning you've posted something to the internet in the last ten years with the name Haselden in the body of the post, or finally you know someone who is a Haselden. Please forward as necessary. How did I get your email address? I did a Yahoo and Google search on the word "haselden", then over a period of approximately two weeks, I painstakingly followed each link that looked like it might have an email address for a Haselden and recorded each. I was able to retrieve approximately 120 email addresses of Haseldens in New Zealand, UK, NC/SC, Virginia, Colorado, Florida and Canada. What do I plan on doing with your email address? I am an individual with no fiduciary ulterior motives. This website is a work of love and is motivated by a desire to know more about my extended family. I will never give your email address to anyone without your permission, and then only to folks who are interested in contacting you regarding Haselden family related questions or concerns. Believe me when I say this, no one hates SPAM more than I do. How can I get off the list? If you wish for me to remove you from this list, please tell me and I will do so immediately. My plan is to use the email addresses to update you occasionally regarding Haselden family issues, concerns, questions or news. Occasionally being defined as, "This is the first email and if there are others they will certainly not fill your inbox". Why another website? There are other websites (few and sparse) that have information regarding the Haselden family, but... - They are not dedicated to the Haselden family. - They have limited focus. - They are not centrally located, rather they are spread out all over the place, and are difficult to find. (After the last few weeks of skulking through pages and pages of search results, you just have to believe me here. :-) - There is no one proactively promoting or advertising their location. - Some websites actually charge for access. Isn't this redundant to the genealogy websites? - Yes and no. Pieces of information found here may be redundant. That's OK, but we can also link to other websites. The point is, this is a one stop shop. If there is some information relating to Haseldens and it's not on this website, we should either archive it here or link to it. What are your plans for the website? The amount of activity on the website and in email really depends on the interest level and support of you who are receiving this. My hope is that it becomes a clearing house for Haselden related information. A place where someone can go and learn everything there is to know about the Haseldens. I know, pretty ambitious, but what the heck. I've wanted to do something like this since college and hey, I'm still young... What do I want you to do? Go to the website. Sign the guest book. Tell me if there is something you'd like to see that isn't there. Tell me if I'm off my rocker and this is a bad idea or if you think it's a good idea. Make suggestions for other features. Send me content for the website. Wanna see your family on Haselden.org? Send me pictures and text, even better, send me fully designed web pages or links even, and there you go. Do nothing if you want. The site is there for you anytime you're interested. Put the website on your favorites and come visit now and then. Volunteer to own a part of the website. Please. Send me Haselden related photos and I will scan them, restore them if necessary, and return them in good order, possibly with a new printout of the photo. I can handle slides as well as prints. Why isn't there much on the website yet? Please do keep in mind that the site is only ~ three weeks old and is a work in progress. I am but one person, hopefully that will change :). I hope to be at least two people in the near future. Seriosly, I hope that others will contribute to the site. I recently took a trip to South Carolina and have more content than I can possibly process for the next few months. More information will come online through time. Why is the website dedicated strictly to Haseldens? It's just a practical necessity really. Even thought the Haselden surname is fairly limited in scope and distribution, anyone that's done any research on the lines knows that this is a substantial challenge without introducing other lines. Will I find information on other lines here? Certainly, it would be impossible to archive and document the Haselden line without reference to other families. It's just that the focus is on Haseldens. Is this website for just the SC/NC Haseldens? No. It's biased that way now, because that's where my line is. I welcome and encourage the New Zealand, UK, Canada, NC/SC, Colorado and any other Haselden line to contribute. Who am I? I am Kirk Haselden, out of James Wayne, out of Everett James, out of Joseph Manuel, out of Joseph James. I am a Software Engineer living in Sammamish Washington, USA, a suburb of Seattle. I am married to Christine and have five children. I work at Microsoft, sometimes I live there. My hobbies are computers, photography, boating/water skiing, and snow skiing. Please take a moment and visit the website, suggest some features, send me some email. I look forward to meeting you all. Thanks for your time, K Webmaster@Haselden.org |
